Brow Lift
What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift or forehead lift can improve the appearance of a sagging and tired-looking face, as can a blepharoplasty or facelift. As there are many treatment options, we must first identify the problem. This may seem simple, but things get more complicated when we look at the brow.
Brows tend to move lower with age. But some eyebrows are low even in young children. If the brow is lower than it should be, it could push the eyelid down and confuse the question of where the problem lies. If you believe in fixing what needs fixing, then eyebrow malposition should be corrected before the upper lid is improved.
There are a variety of treatment options to consider listed below, including non-surgical. Not all conditions can be improved by all approaches. The best way to learn the options that are right for you is through a consultation. After all, not all patients need brow lifts.

Eyebrow malposition can be corrected temporarily with BOTOX® injections. Carefully placed injections selectively relax muscle tension throughout the forehead, allowing the brow to return to an aesthetically pleasing height. This type of light to moderate correction can last up to six months. Additional treatments will be required to maintain the correction.
Brow lifts can also be performed with minimal incisions utilizing an endoscope. An endoscope is a small video camera that can be inserted beneath the skin, allowing for clear visualization of the muscles and tissues without the need for a large resection of the skin.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that nearly 45,000 brow lifts were performed in 2012. Brow lifts can be performed with many variations based largely on skin incision locations and improvement goals. Each variation treats a different set of conditions, conditions that may be best treated in combination with other procedures or with a procedure other than a brow lift.
Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) and brow lifts are often performed with other facial procedures. They can be performed alone or together. A lower eyelid correction makes excellent sense with a facelift as the tissue contours blend together better and may resolve the aesthetic complaint better than a brow lift.
Success in surgery is based on careful examination, very careful technique and intelligent linking of procedures. With Dr. Geldner’s superior skill, 25 years of experience, and his experienced and compassionate staff, we exceed our patients’ expectations.
A Brow Lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at raising the eyebrows to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance. The procedure targets sagging skin on the forehead, drooping eyebrows, and deep furrows or lines between the eyes. By lifting the brow, it can smooth out wrinkles, reduce the appearance of frown lines, and open up the eye area, giving the face a more alert and rejuvenated look.
Good candidates for a Brow Lift are typically individuals who:
- Have Sagging or Low Eyebrows: This can create a tired, sad, or angry appearance.
- Experience Deep Forehead Wrinkles or Frown Lines: These lines can develop due to aging, genetics, or repeated facial expressions.
- Are in Good Overall Health: Candidates should be free from serious medical conditions that could impair healing or increase surgical risks.
- Do Not Smoke: Smoking can interfere with the healing process and increase the risk of complications. It’s advisable to quit smoking several weeks before and after surgery.
- Have Realistic Expectations: Understanding the potential outcomes and limitations of the procedure is crucial for satisfaction with the results.
During the consultation, Dr. Geldner will evaluate your facial structure, skin elasticity, and overall health. He will discuss your aesthetic goals and determine the best surgical approach, which may include traditional brow lift, endoscopic brow lift, or temporal (limited incision) brow lift. Dr. Geldner will also explain the procedure in detail, including the expected results, risks, and recovery process.
Recovery from a Brow Lift typically involves some swelling and bruising, which can be managed with prescribed pain medications and proper post-operative care. Most patients can return to normal activities within one to two weeks, although strenuous activities should be avoided for a few weeks. Some numbness can occur but is usually short lived.
A Brow Lift can provide long-lasting results, enhancing your facial appearance and boosting your self-confidence. By choosing a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Geldner and following their pre- and post-operative instructions, you can achieve a smoother, more youthful brow and a rejuvenated facial appearance.
