Just like you wouldn’t come home from a hard workout and eat pizza, you shouldn’t have treatments done then go home and use skincare products full of fillers and harsh chemicals.
“If you go home and use products that are not medical grade, you are literally just undoing everything I just did to fix your face,” says Deanna. Deanna recommends having a skincare routine that includes an antioxidant serum during the day in conjunction with an SPF 30 sunscreen or above. “Even on days where the sun is not out the harmful UV rays are still coming thru the clouds and causing environmental damage, you want to make sure you are protected.”
At night, taking off your makeup is KEY. You should also ditch the beaded exfoliators after the age of 18 and advance to a nightly chemical exfoliating serum.
“Scrubs can aggravate skin and cause damage or breakouts. Instead, apply a serum that includes glycolic, retinol or salicylic (for oily skin) and apply right after you wash your face,” says Deanna. A night time moisturizer is also necessary for keeping that youthful glow. “Night is when the skin regenerates and rejuvenates; hydration is a key factor in that.”
Personally, I love face oils for night time, especially during the harsh Chicago winters. My favorite is Circ-Cell’s cruelty free Wooshie Facial oil. It hydrates by mimicking the natural oils produced by your skin to give you a nice glow. If you prefer something different just make sure it is labeled as non-comedogenic so it does not clog your pores and lead to breakouts.
